TRIAC: The cheapest highway-ready electric whip

•October 11, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Apparently this joint can go 80mph.  With that single wheel in the back, I’m not sure I’d be whippin’ it at 80.  Found this at GoodCleanTech.  Here’s their story…

We already know that the all-electric TRIAC, marketed by Green Vehicles, can go as fast as 80 mph and comes with a lithium-ion pack good for 5 years and 100 miles between charges. What’s new is the vehicle’s upcoming December delivery and its confirmed $22,995 sticker.TRIAC’s head designer, Ehab Youssef, says that the car’s price factor could potentially make it the cheapest highway-capable EV. Its nearest rival is the NmG – a rubber ducky-like trike with a top speed of 76 mph. Still, the 2 -passenger TRIAC is a better bargain, since the $30,000 NmG is a one-seater with a range of only 30 miles.

Green Nightclub in NYC

•October 10, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I couldn’t find any photos, but apparently it’s been open for a minute.   I found the info at GoodCleanTech

Greenhouse club and lounge, located at 150 Varick Street in Manhattan’s hip SoHo district, could soon become the ultimate nightlife destination for those who want to party the green style. The unique venue comes with the EPA-designed water distribution system and even features Biodegradable Liquid Body Cleanser developed in partnership with Brad Pitt. The floors are made of bamboo, the glass is recycled, and the lights are naturally LED. In fact, the 6,000 square foot compound became the first eco-friendly event space to be registered with L.E.E.D.

“Green living has become a way of life for many people and especially for New Yorkers,” says Jon B., owner of Greenhouse. “We are proud to be the first ones to create an event space that will merge nightlife with positive steps towards addressing global concerns, and hope that eventually others will be encouraged to follow in our foot steps.”

Greenhouse has already staged a number of high-profile events both in the United States and abroad, including the Sundance Film Festival, Paris Fashion Week, Cannes Film Festival, and the Toronto International Film Festival. These exclusive fêtes included celebrity guests like U2, Al Gore, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, Bruce Willis, Jodie Foster, Felicity Huffman, Mary-Kate Olsen, Colin Ferrell, Michael Keaton, Steven Soderbergh and Benicio Del Toro. Elevate Film Festival

•October 2, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I went to this last year, and had a great time.  The event was a little unorganized and they had a couple sound issues, but I’m confident they’ll have that figured out this year.  Any unorganization was a very minor flaw in overall experience, which was very dope and highly recommended.  Entertaining and All Good.  If you’re in LA this weekend, check out the The Elevate Film Festival

Here’s a bit about the festival taken from their website…
What began in December 05 as the worlds first conscious 48-hour film festival has rapidly evolved into a breakthrough multi-media event.  ELEVATE Film Festival 5 “All Tribes Unite” premieres on October 5th at Los Angeles’ premiere arena, the 7000 seat state-of-the-art Nokia Theatre. In the way Cirque Du Soleil has radically redefined circus, Elevate is revolutionizing the experience of cinema.  By merging cutting edge science and technology with movies, music and new media, ELEVATE is a futuristic feast for the senses.  During the show, audience members will have a chance to experience advanced sound and energy healing modalities that will demonstrate the effects of sight and sound on the human body, and reveal how our collective potential can affect the world.  Our hearts will entrain to the tribal beats of the epic electronica ensemble Medicine Drum – one of their first live performances in over a decade!

The theme for ELEVATE 5 is “All Tribes Unite!”  We will bring together leaders of native and indigenous people and give their ancient wisdom a voice through modern technology.  Our goal is to ignite the deep connection we inherently feel with one another and our precious planet.

The main event is the world premiere of more than twenty short films produced exclusively for this night. Emerging and professional filmmakers from around the world are given assignments to be completed within seven days.  The films cover bold and timely subjects, impacting the major forms of media: commercials, music videos, documentaries, scripted dramas and comedies.  The filmmakers join us live in Los Angeles for the world premiere of their projects.

For the grand finale we will launch the first annual Elevate Award Show to honor celebrity philanthropists for doing their part to Elevate our people and our planet.

The event is this Sunday, October 4th and you can get free tickets by visiting the website.

Andre 3000’s Benjamin Bixby

•September 28, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Aiight, I’m a little late on this news, and to my knowledge there is nothing “sustainable” or “green” about Andre 3000’s new Benjamin Bixby menswear line, but I don’t care.  As long as he doesn’t make some drastic evil change in his game, anything Andre 3000 related is All Good by me.  I support.

Grind for the Green

•September 26, 2008 • Leave a Comment

This is what I’m talkin’ ’bout.  Good work kids.  Let’s take it to the next level.  Saw this over at Treehugger

Grind for the Green,a 100% solar-powered hip hop concert designed for and organized by youth, was held last weekend in Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco. This was the first year for the concert, but organizers all said that the event was so successful that they plan on hosting one next year. Power for the stage was provided by Solar Living Institute and there were booths at the event promoting local green vendors and organizations.

***I tried to post the video, but I can’t embed the style of video that it is, so you’ll have to go over to Treehugger to watch it and to read the full story.***
